"It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle." ~ Ernest Hemingway

It was nice to see 18 people turn up for the January Bike Ride, we went to Carlops. A short ride, a very cold, generally freezing all day, but not very slippy. A beautiful sunny crisp winter day, which made everyone very cheery indeed, beautiful views of the countryside all around. One of those days where it felt good to be alive.

Sorry for the delay, but I have been a little busy, studying, project managing the garage conversion, we no longer have a garage, instead a (nearly) fully functional dining room / kitchen. Plus another year older :-( Not done much cycling as I have also been servicing my bike.

The ride took place on the 8th January as the first Sunday of 2006 fell on New Years Day. This was a wonderful day to be out on the bike.

We lunched at the Allan Ramsay hotel until about 2pm, then returned to my house, at Fairmilehead for seasonal goodies, some mince pies (the kids got in fast!!!), shortbread and Christmas cake.

It was nice to get out of the chaos of the house for a few hours. Excellent views of the Pentland Hills, and a very blue sky.

Warm Regards,
