Sunday 3rd July 2022. Meet at 10:00 outside the Usher Hall, Lothian Rd.
Destination to be decided on Wednesday. Distance will be around 70km (42 miles). Lunch in a café.
Please check your bike before the ride, i.e. tyre pressure, chain and brakes. Bring some money for emergencies and café stops and/or post ride refreshments. Don't forget snacks to keep your energy levels up and a drink to consume en-route.
Don't forget to bring a small toolkit to fit your bike and a spare inner tube in case you get a puncture. It is much easier to replace the tube than to repair a tube, especially if you have a slow puncture.
The ride of 15 went to Blackness via Craigie - 1 puncture sustained by the farm, S.Queensferry, Hopetoun House, a carry over the gate to get out to Abercorn where churchyard was explored and mausoleum discovered whilst searching for the path to Blackness. We opted instead for the road and most lunched on the beach - the others relying on flapjacks from the shop as the inn closed in early July. After cycling to the castle we returned in 2 groups - one taking the canal to Winchburgh and taking tea at the Cramond Brig Hotel, the other following the brick surfaced path through the woods to an enclosed swing gate which bikes just fitted thru. We then found ourselves enjoying the delightful grounds of the hopetoun estate. We kept going till thru the gates before getting tea/late lunch in Queensferry and returning on the railway path and Craigie Road.
