Next Spokes Ride

Sunday 3rd July 2022. Meet at 10:00 outside the Usher Hall, Lothian Rd.

Destination to be decided on Wednesday. Distance will be around 70km (42 miles). Lunch in a café.

Please check your bike before the ride, i.e. tyre pressure, chain and brakes. Bring some money for emergencies and café stops and/or post ride refreshments. Don't forget snacks to keep your energy levels up and a drink to consume en-route.

Don't forget to bring a small toolkit to fit your bike and a spare inner tube in case you get a puncture. It is much easier to replace the tube than to repair a tube, especially if you have a slow puncture.

What a beautiful day for a Spokes Ride, we started from the Usher Hall at 10:17 am and departed for Mid Calder. A bit breezy, but it was a balmy 12 deg Celsius, and lots of sunshine. 21 people turned up. Yup I’m back on the bike (don’t all moan at once please!!!!), firing on one leg though. Makes acceleration a bit interesting.

The ride of 15 went to Blackness via Craigie - 1 puncture sustained by the farm, S.Queensferry, Hopetoun House, a carry over the gate to get out to Abercorn where churchyard was explored and mausoleum discovered whilst searching for the path to Blackness.  We opted instead for the road and most lunched on the beach - the others relying on flapjacks from the shop as the inn closed in early July.

You can't have missed the excellent prizes on offer for Sunday's spokes ride to Linlithgow. Remember there's also a 'booby' prize as well. Still laid up becaus eI broke my leg, the September 2003 Spokes Ride was a Treasure Hunt.

Well, now for Sunday's ride. We had a pleasant spin over the Meadows, down the Innocent path, through Niddrie and then Mucklets Lane and along Pinkie Road before hitting the "Coastal Trail" to Gullane Beach. Here the 13 of us partook in picnics, paddling in the water which became pleasant once all feeling had ceased and Frisbee for the more energetic. Sadly, no one remembered their bucket and spade.
