Next Spokes Ride

Sunday 3rd July 2022. Meet at 10:00 outside the Usher Hall, Lothian Rd.

Destination to be decided on Wednesday. Distance will be around 70km (42 miles). Lunch in a café.

Please check your bike before the ride, i.e. tyre pressure, chain and brakes. Bring some money for emergencies and café stops and/or post ride refreshments. Don't forget snacks to keep your energy levels up and a drink to consume en-route.

Don't forget to bring a small toolkit to fit your bike and a spare inner tube in case you get a puncture. It is much easier to replace the tube than to repair a tube, especially if you have a slow puncture.

Well we had a wonderful bike ride to Dunfermline today. We visited Pittencrief Park, where we enjoyed a leisurely lunch in the Conservatory Café in Pittencrief House. The weather was very kind to us, being quite wary after yesterday’s downpour, we missed all the showers apart from a light shower at South Queensferry, and we were dry all day.

I was away down south, so the ride was led by Mark, with assistance from Neil and Stef. They went to Fala in Midlothian. I was at the Meadows festival aiding my other half. Well summer must be here, I’m cycling in a T-shirt. Some people are wearing even less. Some of you may have heard the ‘outrage’ of the nudist cyclists at the Weekend. That never appeared in the Spokes newsletter did it? Back to normal on the July Ride.

Well a lovely ride last Sunday 4th April, when we cycled to Aberdour in Fife. It didn’t start too well, a cold shower immediately sending two people scurrying home as we went through Fountainbridge, the temperature was only 6 deg C.After emerging from the tunnel under the Western Approach Road, the rain stopped, so we headed for Roseburn and National cycle route 1, which we would follow to Aberdour.

The weather is warming up slowly, although the last weekend in April saw temperatures soar to over 20 deg C, we were less lucky, the maximum temp reaching 13 deg C in the sunshine. For most of the time the temperature was 11 or 12 deg C. So it was still cool, but no rain, bright but not a lot of blue sky. We went to West Linton, heading up hill and in to the wind for the most part.

A glorious day for cycling today, thank you to everyone who turned up, it was very nice to see you all. uring the lunch, some people agreed to organise another social event, a meal out, on the 23rd April. Further details will be sent out when I receive them. Thanks to people involved for agreeing to do this. I’m sure those of you, who were there at the meal last year, would agree, that this will turn out to be a very enjoyable evening out.
