Next Spokes Ride

Sunday 3rd July 2022. Meet at 10:00 outside the Usher Hall, Lothian Rd.

Destination to be decided on Wednesday. Distance will be around 70km (42 miles). Lunch in a café.

Please check your bike before the ride, i.e. tyre pressure, chain and brakes. Bring some money for emergencies and café stops and/or post ride refreshments. Don't forget snacks to keep your energy levels up and a drink to consume en-route.

Don't forget to bring a small toolkit to fit your bike and a spare inner tube in case you get a puncture. It is much easier to replace the tube than to repair a tube, especially if you have a slow puncture.

Great Explorations

"Respect your fellow human being, treat them fairly, disagree with them honestly, enjoy their friendship, explore your thoughts about one another candidly, work together for a common goal and help one another achieve it." ~ Bill Bradley

The longer Summer Spokes Ride took place on the 20th July, 8 of us went to Muiravonside Country Park in Falkirk District, west of Linlithgow. Fortunately, the rain had stopped, well got no further west than Edinburgh. Although breezy on the way out, we avoided, it was a very pleasant cycle ride. We found a nice sheltered area for lunch, where we could sit out of the wind and in the sun. The grass was a bit damp. Overall distance was 85 km, about 53 miles.

Just a little bit further

The advantage of longer rides allows us to explore further afield. We are able to do by starting earlier. So if you want to come along next month, set the alarm clock 1/2 an hour earlier than usual and come along, it's fun. This one is very easy, just a little bit longer than a normal Spokes Ride.

Cyclists Meal

This year sees the fifth anniversary of the Cyclists' Meal, Mike Lewis organised the first meal back in October 2003, and has become a biannual event. October will be the next meal, most possibly the 17th, but the feast is movable to accomodate as many people as possibleWe've been to quite a few establishments around Edinburgh, and if you know of a venue that can take 20 or so people, and serves good food, or if you're interested in coming along, let me know. Partners are welcome as well, we won't make them ride a bike. After the meal, the social mood continues as we visit one of Edinburgh's fine hostelries.

Next Spokes Ride

All Spokes Rdes are 10 to 12 mph, a speed easily attainable by any moderately fit cyclist. The next Spokes Ride is on Sunday 3rd August. If dry then please bring a picnic, if sunny and warm, a bucket and spade. The next Summer Spokes Ride will be on the 17th August at 9:30am, and will probably be down to the Borders.

Warm Regards,

Explore, Dream, Discover
