Next Spokes Ride

Sunday 3rd July 2022. Meet at 10:00 outside the Usher Hall, Lothian Rd.

Destination to be decided on Wednesday. Distance will be around 70km (42 miles). Lunch in a café.

Please check your bike before the ride, i.e. tyre pressure, chain and brakes. Bring some money for emergencies and café stops and/or post ride refreshments. Don't forget snacks to keep your energy levels up and a drink to consume en-route.

Don't forget to bring a small toolkit to fit your bike and a spare inner tube in case you get a puncture. It is much easier to replace the tube than to repair a tube, especially if you have a slow puncture.

Spring into Summer

"Lethargics are to be laid in the light, and exposed to the rays of the sun for the disease is gloom." - Aretaeus

Thank you to everyone who turned up on Sunday. It was very nice to see you, and explore the wonderful West Lothian countryside with you as company. It was a warm, slightly fast, and quite fantastic. Hopefully, summer will be like this. Details of all rides I will be doing are shown in the calendar in the right column of the website.

The Long and Windy Road

"OHANA, Means family, family means no one gets left behind, or forgotten" - Lilo and Stitch

A lovely trip down to the Scottish Borders starting and ending in Edinburgh. A bit breezy, which made deciding the route to take was based on what is the less painful option.

No Rain Again!!!

"The trouble with weather forecasting is that it's right too often for us to ignore it and wrong too often for us to rely on it." - Patrick Young

Despite the weather forecast, 11 of us ventured to the Usher Hall. We went to Dunfermline in Fife, a longer ride that of late, making the most of the relatively calm, and most importantly, dry weather. There was a constant breeze, but this was not too strong. Cycling over the Forth on the Road bridge gave some excellent views of distant mountains, some of which still had some snow on top.

From Brrr To Cor

"To be interested in the changing seasons is a happier state of mind than to be hopelessly in love with spring." - George Santayana

It snowed, and it snowed, winter looked like it was refusing to relinquish its grip on the land. A snowy blanket lay in my back garden as I ventured out. I got to the Usher Hall; three souls were awaiting my arrival, cold and shivering but smiling. By 10:15, there were ten of us. Nero was going to have to wait another month. The Spokes Ride went ahead. The ride started with an exfoliating face rub of ice, but ended in pleasant spring sunshine. Nine people travelled on a bike ride from winter in to spring, via East Lothian and Midlothian. It was certainly a ride where, if you were so inclined, that you could learn to love all the seasons in one day

Fake Weather Forecast

"If you don't go after what you want, you'll never have it, If you don't ask, the answer is always no. If you don't step forward, you're always in the same place." - Nora Roberts

Weather forecast wasn’t great for the last Spokes Ride, but 12 people stepped forward for a ride to Mid Calder to avoid staying in the same place. Pictures and route will appear on my website. Although breezy and cool, it was dry for a short and slow ride. In the afternoon, the wind had turned, so we had the wind in our faces on the way out and on the way back.
