Next Spokes Ride

Sunday 3rd July 2022. Meet at 10:00 outside the Usher Hall, Lothian Rd.

Destination to be decided on Wednesday. Distance will be around 70km (42 miles). Lunch in a café.

Please check your bike before the ride, i.e. tyre pressure, chain and brakes. Bring some money for emergencies and café stops and/or post ride refreshments. Don't forget snacks to keep your energy levels up and a drink to consume en-route.

Don't forget to bring a small toolkit to fit your bike and a spare inner tube in case you get a puncture. It is much easier to replace the tube than to repair a tube, especially if you have a slow puncture.

Did we have a good day or did we have a good day. Not a day to be part of the TBC (Turning Back Club to the newbies to this email). What a brilliant ride to Aberdour. Thanks to all who turned up, hope you enjoyed yourself. Enclosed highly compressed pictures of some part of the ride. Yes I am working on a picture bit for Snowcycle.

A Spring Ride to Aberdour is always great. The Daffs line the traffic free route in to Aberdour. 20 people turned up.

Lunch in the grounds of Aberdour Castle for apparently 17 people, cos that’s how many we got the free ticket for. But examining the photos, I can only see 16. We all must have visited the tearoom for coffee / tea, and we all took a trip around the castle.

Next ride, CTC 3rd Sunday Ride, Easter Sunday (20th April) 10 am Commonwealth Pool).

Next Spokes Ride, 4th May, Route to be decided. If it’s dry, it’ll be fun!!!!!

Let have more news tomorrow.

Take care, and I hope to see you all soon (excepting those in New Zealand, that might take a bit longer. Too much blue sky ;-))

Stats:

Left Usher Hall 10:15 - Returned Roseburn 17:22

Distance (I cycled anyway):      74.9 km, take 7.5 km off, to match route above 67.4 km (42.125 miles)

Total height climbed:                  568 metres

Max Temp:                                 14 degrees Celsius. Unfortunately the sun decided not to shine.

Route

Lothian Road – Fountainbridge – cycle path link to Dalry Road – Murieston Crescent – Russell Rd. On to Cycle Path. Followed National Cycle Network Route 1 to Burnshot Gate. Minor Road then StandingStane Rd, turned on to Railway Path to South Queensferry Scotmid supermarket. Morison Gdns to access Forth Road Bridge. At the north end of the bridge we said goodbye to 3 people in the TBC. That left 17 people. Apparently.National Cycle Network Route 1 Fife Coastal Path until Moray Ways, then National Cycle Network Route 1 to Aberdour, then to Aberdour Castle.

Left for home sometime after 2 o’clock. Took National Cycle Network Route 1 back to St. Bridget’s Church, where those people who had not visited it before, took advantage to look around it. Then National Cycle Network Route 1 back to Inverkeithing did not visit Donibristle Chapel on the way back as it was getting late. At Inverkeithing realised we had lost one person, so we were 16, not 17. Where did that person go? Let me know please in future. Thanks. I assume you had gone back on your own, but for safety, I’d rather know.

Back over the bridge, did same route back to Edinburgh (sorry, it’s late and I need my bed!!!) as we took to Edinburgh.
