Next Spokes Ride

Sunday 3rd July 2022. Meet at 10:00 outside the Usher Hall, Lothian Rd.

Destination to be decided on Wednesday. Distance will be around 70km (42 miles). Lunch in a café.

Please check your bike before the ride, i.e. tyre pressure, chain and brakes. Bring some money for emergencies and café stops and/or post ride refreshments. Don't forget snacks to keep your energy levels up and a drink to consume en-route.

Don't forget to bring a small toolkit to fit your bike and a spare inner tube in case you get a puncture. It is much easier to replace the tube than to repair a tube, especially if you have a slow puncture.

Afraid of the cold?

"The sun that brief December day
rose cheerless over hills of grey,
And, darkly circled, gave at noon
a sadder light than waning moon." ~
John Greenleaf Whittier

Apologies for delay is ending this out as my mother passed away in November, so with funerals, birthdays and Christmas, it has been a very busy time indeed. Thanks to the Fourteen people turned up for the last Spokes Ride of 2008. Hope you all enjoyed the ride.

Warmth to ward off the Autumnal chill.

"You shared the spark, you fanned the flame,
You fed the fires, you passed the Names.
For all those known and for all unnamed,
For all who have walked the Way;
We raise this toast, with thanks this day." ~
Mike Garofalo, Kindreds, Cuttings

A truly crisp cold autumn day saw 21 people turn up for the penultimate Spokes Ride of 2008. A day of ice, orange leaves and beautiful sunshine, one of those days that leave a lasting impression. One person did have two punctures, but these things happen. At least the unfortunate cyclist had a spare tube, and lots of help to fix the second puncture.

Last Gasp of Summer

"I can see clearly now the rain has gone. I can see all obstacles in my way. Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind. It’s gonna be a bright, bright sunshiney day" ~ Johnny Nash

It doesn’t seem that long ago that we went to West Lothian in glorious sunshine, looking forward to a summer of glorious weather. Here we are at the autumnal equinox with equally glorious weather, looking forward to autumn. The dark clouds blown away by summer’s kiss goodbye. 10 people turned up for a wonderful late summer ride down to the Borders. Not as long as I had anticipated, but it was a wonderful ride all the same.

Summer Hang's On

"Happy trails to you, until we meet again.
Some trails are happy ones, Others are blue.
It's the way you ride the trail that counts,
Here's a happy one for you." ~
Dale Evans

The good weather brought 21 people out to this month’s Spokes Ride, which went to Linlithgow. A lovely autumn day for a bike ride, it started off cold, about 7 deg C at the start. Off road was certainly a little muddy as a result of the terrible weather on Saturday. So we followed a more tarmac alternative (especially as some people didn’t want to get their new bikes dirty!!) . Thanks to all those who turned up to make the ride a warm and wonderful experience. The blue sky has been a rare sight this year, we were fortunate to have one today.

It Never Rains

"Cycling satisfies so many needs. If you're in a gregarious mood, you can go out with a group. OR you can go alone- solo. If you're in an aggressive mood, you can go fast, or if you're tired and want to unwind you can go slow. A bicycle doesn't discriminate in age, either." ~ Georgena Terry

We had a lovely dry cycle ride to Aberdour on Sunday 7th September. Although very breezy, and looking decidedly stormy, we managed to avoid the rain again.
