Forecast dry. Max Temp 16°C A Slight Westerly Wind.

Well, now for Sunday's ride. We had a pleasant spin over the Meadows, down the Innocent path, through Niddrie and then Mucklets Lane and along Pinkie Road before hitting the "Coastal Trail" to Gullane Beach. Here the 13 of us partook in picnics, paddling in the water which became pleasant once all feeling had ceased and Frisbee for the more energetic. Sadly, no one remembered their bucket and spade.

We then returned on a pleasant, quiet byway past Myreton Motor Museum, the rather busy B1377 and then another quiet but sharply left turning and ascending backroad from Spittal followed by a right and another ascending left past the rather imposing Trabroun House and Tower. A right at the end took us onto the excellently broad cycle lane on the old A1 as far as Gladsmuir where we branched left to Penston. After a breather, we took the rough but dry path to New Winton, and thence by back road to North Elphinstone.

We then ascended the path affording excellent over the Firth of Forth and emerged at the top of Fa'side Hill. After warning everyone to "Hold on tight", I attained 42 mph without using my brakes on the descent. Everyone made it down intact to take the path to Inveresk and the road to worship at Musselburgh's Shrine to ice cream; Luca's! The meringue and two-scoop combo I enjoyed was delicious, but less ostentatious than the Nut Sundaes which seemed to be consumed with utmost pleasure. Must make a return visit to try their Iron Brew Sorbet!

Much refreshed and with a true feeling of Summer holidays, we cycled together to Eastfield before splitting into North and Southsiders, myself leading the latter group past Big W and onto the Innocent path again.
